Requirements
To be eligible to apply for the Startup category your business must:
- The business must be incorporated and registered as a UK company.
NB: Applicants applying can be resident in a different country as long as the business is incorporated in the UK.
- The business must be disruptive and innovative.
- In addition to the above, businesses must also meet one or more of the following:
- Have a product and/or service already in the market.
- Be generating revenue from the product/service of £250k or less in the last financial year.
- Have raised seed funding of between £50k to £850k
- Have 2 to 25 full-time employees (this can include the founding team).
- All applicants/members of the participating business must be at least 18 years of age.
- Applicants/participating businesses must confirm they meet the above criteria (points 1-3) upon submitting their application.
Note: You can only apply for the programme once, even if you have a number of businesses and/or separate businesses which match the criteria for both University and Startup Categories.
Please note there are two stages to the application process. If you are successful in the first stage you will be asked to complete a further application form where you will be asked additional information about your business. Please refer to the T&Cs for further information.
General information
Santander is offering early-stage startups from across the UK the opportunity to win up to £25,000 equity-free funding and business support through the Santander X UK Awards 2023.
Traditionally a competition for university entrepreneurs, this year applications in the startup category have been extended to include all UK businesses (see eligibility below).
Three winners will receive up to £25,000 funding and secure an automatic place in the Santander X Global Award, Santander's international early-stage entrepreneurship competition. There, you'll represent the UK and compete with entrepreneurs from countries across Europe and Latin America to win additional cash prizes, international exposure and more!
Do you have what it takes to go up against the best start-ups worldwide?
If selected you'll have the opportunity to join a two day in-person bootcamp in late October with expert-led sessions, networking and pitch support.
You'll then be invited to pitch your business during Global Entrepreneurship Week (13 – 17 November).
Make it to the final six businesses in the startup category and you'll get the chance to pitch live to a panel of high-profile judges, including Mike Regnier, Santander UK Chief Executive, high-profile at the National Final in London on 7 December.
Reward
Successful winners and finalists will receive the following cash prizes:
· 1st place: £25,000
· 2nd place: £15,000
· 3rd place: £10,000
· 4th–6th place: £2,500
All winners and runners-up will also receive a package of business support.
