  • Requirements

    Startups

    1. Must be legally incorporated in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Germany, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Uruguay, the United Kingdom or the United States of America.
    2. Be technology based: focused on the development and/or manufacturing that uses leading edge scientific or technological knowledge systematically to produce new goods or services to the market.
    3. Be innovative: the solution includes a feasible and credible new technology, new technology application, new business model, or a new process. The maturity of the technology is referenced along with any patents or IP strategy associated with the solution.
    4. Meet at least one of the following criteria:
    • Currently marketing a product/service that does not exceed annual sales revenue of $300k.
    • Have raised capital between $100k and $1m.
    • Have between 2 and 25 full time employees.


    Scaleups

    1. Must be legally incorporated for at least 2 years in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Germany, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Uruguay, the United Kingdom or the United States of America.
    2. Be technology based: focused on the development and/or manufacturing that uses leading edge scientific or technological knowledge systematically to produce new goods or services to the market.
    3. Be innovative: the solution includes a feasible and credible new technology, new technology application, new business model, or a new process. The maturity of the technology is referenced along with any patents or IP strategy associated with the solution.
    4. Meet at least one of the following criteria:
    • Currently marketing a product/service with over $300k annual sales.
    • Have raised over $1m.
    • Have over 25 full time employees.


    Exceptions:

    • If the company meets the scaleup criteria, but has less than two years since their legal incorporation then it will be considered a startup.
    • If the company has already won a previous Santander X Global Challenge (on the same category they are applying for), then they won't be considered eligible.
  • General information

    Banco Santander and Oxentia Foundation are launching the Santander X Global Challenge | Countdown to Zero. An open call for startups and scale-ups to help society find the most innovative and sustainable solutions in different areas: mobility, logistics and transport, and carbon offsetting alternatives. 


    This new global challenge is aimed at startups and scale-ups within the Santander X global footprint with an innovative and technology-based product. The competition is supported by F1® as part of their commitment to Net Zero by 2030 and will be judged by a panel that includes F1® personnel.


    Applications are open until September 8, 2022.


    Solutions should address issues aligned with one or more of the following challenge verticals:


    • ON THE TRACK: How can your solution play a critical role in the future of mobility with net-zero carbon emissions?
    • ON THE MOVE: How can your solution help transportation become more environmentally friendly? Could your solution address challenges from the various uses of trucks, ships & airplanes?
    • BALANCE TO ZERO: How can your solution create credible offsets and breakthrough CO2 sequestration, capturing, and utilisation programs?

  • Reward

    The six winning solutions (three startups and three scale-ups), will receive the following benefits:

    • Financial support for the development of their solutions. A total of €120k.
    • Promotion to drive local and global visibility and acknowledgment of the winning solutions through some of Santander Group's portals and social media channels.
    • Invitation to one team member per Winning Participant to the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE LA CIUDAD DE MÉXICO 2022 where the awards ceremony will be held.
    • Membership to Santander X 100, Santander X's prime community where members are provided with valuable experiences and/or useful connections to be able to progress with their businesses.
    • Access to EIT InnoEnergy Innovation Engine to design and support the Winning Participant’s acceleration roadmap to growth.
    • The opportunity to present and pitch its entry to FOML personnel.
