Requirements
- Applicants must be current LJMU students or graduates who completed an undergraduate degree, postgraduate degree, or PGCert within the last five years.
- Short courses and continuing professional development certificates are not eligible.
- Both sole traders and registered limited companies are eligible to apply.
- Applicants must own at least 50% of the business.
- Businesses must be actively trading for at least six months prior to application.
- Annual business revenue must not exceed £50,000.
- The competition is open to UK-based businesses whose founders are legally entitled to operate a business in the UK.
- Successful applicants are required to engage in promotional activities for the Startup Hub, and may be asked for ongoing information about the business for our reporting.
- LJMU will not support business ventures that are not aligned to the university’s core values or which may bring the university into disrepute.
General information
The SantanderX Growth Award is for LJMU students and recent graduates who are already building something real. If you run a trading business and have a clear growth plan, this award is designed to help you take the next step.
Liverpool John Moores University, in partnership with Santander Universities, is offering three £5,000 grants to founders who can make a compelling case for growth and impact. The award is open to current LJMU students and graduates from the last five years who are UK residents operating UK-based businesses.

Please note: the video need not be polished; we are looking for entrepreneurs to make compelling cases for their award, we are not judging production quality.
Eligible graduates include those who have completed an undergraduate degree, postgraduate degree, or PGCert at LJMU. Short courses and continuing professional development certificates are not eligible.
This is not a competition for ideas alone. We are looking for businesses that are already trading and ready to go further.
Reward
The SantanderX Growth Awards will provide three £5,000 equity-free grants to trading businesses founded by LJMU students or alumni with annual revenues under £50,000.
Funding may be used for equipment, marketing, product development, professional services, expansion into new markets, or other clearly defined growth activities that move the business forward.
